Age 53
I joined New Dimensions after having major heart surgery. My fitness levels were low and I felt unsure about walking or exercising on my own. New Dimensions has helped me become more confident when exercising. It offers a very caring environment where if necessary you are monitored closely.

Heartmoves
Heartmoves is a program that has been developed by the National Heart Foundation.
It is designed to be a safe form of exercise for people who are suffering from
conditions such as Diabetes or Heart Disease. Heart Moves is conducted by trained
leaders in a group and is a combination of low to moderate intensity strength and
conditioning exercise. We also run weekly Heart Moves for MS classes.
Physical activity plays an important role in assisting to minimise the symptoms of
multiple sclerosis. The Heartmoves program focuses on delivering safe,
low-to-moderate intensity exercise incorporating gentle aerobic activity, weight-bearing
or resistance exercise and stretching – all of which help to build strength and fitness
as well as improve balance.
About Heartmoves for MS
The Heartmoves for MS program is a standard Heartmoves program which is being
offered especially to people living with MS, allowing you to start exercising in a
supported environment, alongside people sharing similar issues. Everyone can
start at their own level and exercise at their own pace. Heartmoves leaders are
accredited exercise professionals, ready to tailor exercise in individual needs.
Heartmoves programs include chairs which can be used to participate in the seated
version.
What to expect at Heartmoves for MS
Part of the aim of Heartmoves for MS is for participants to have fun and enjoy exercise.
There are always chairs available, and you are welcome to use them during the
session. Your Heartmoves leader will explain each exercise to you and each one can
be adapted for special needs. Heartmoves leaders will help you to complete a
pre-exercise screening form and you may need to consult your GP before starting a
Heartmoves for MS program.
